CGTN Cuba’s healthcare strained by deepening energy crisis

In Cuba, the national healthcare system is under increasing pressure as a U.S. oil blockade worsens the island’s energy crisis, disrupting hospitals and clinics across the country. CGTN’s Luis Chirino reports from Havana that patients needing radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and kidney treatments are experiencing delays. Ambulance services and operating rooms are affected by blackouts, and more than 96,000 people, including over 11,000 children, are on waiting lists for surgery. At Ramon Gonzalez Coro Maternity Hospital, electricity shortages are interfering with ultrasounds, medicine refrigeration, and staff transportation, forcing services to be reorganized and basic care to be prioritized as health authorities call for international support.
