China’s 15th Five-Year Plan prioritizes regional coordinated development, including high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The 2,000-km high-speed railway along the Yangtze River from Shanghai to Chengdu, with over 500 billion yuan (over $72 billion) in investment, is estimated to boost upstream and downstream industrial value added by nearly 1.5 trillion yuan. Below the busy Yangtze River, where cargo ships constantly shuttle, the Chongming-Taicang tunnel is being built.
