Today, they’re at the heart of an unexpected new trend. Gong Cuiying and a group of local women spend their days dressing miniature “Buddha dolls” in tiny, hand-crocheted hoodies. In a city once powered by coal, these women are weaving a new kind of future, stitch by stitch, proving that Datong’s greatest resource has always been its creativity.
