CCG expels illegally intruding Philippine vessels from Huangyan Dao waters
The China Coast Guard (CCG) recently expelled Philippine vessels that had illegally intruded into China’s territorial waters off Huangyan Dao in the South China Sea. On Wednesday, the CCG urged the Philippine side to immediately cease what it described as provocations and smear campaigns in the waters off China’s Huangyan Dao. Spokesperson Liu Dejun said the CCG had carried out routine rights-protection and law-enforcement training in the surrounding waters, issuing a navigation safety notice in advance in accordance with the law. However, during the exercise, a number of Philippine vessels gathered in the area under the pretext of “fishing,” attempting to provoke incidents and attract international attention, Liu said. He added that the CCG will continue to conduct lawful rights-protection and law-enforcement operations in the waters off Huangyan Dao, firmly safeguarding China’s territorial sovereignty and its maritime rights and interests.
