CBC News U.S. launches strikes against ISIS in Nigeria: Trump

The U.S. carried out ‘deadly’ airstrikes against ISIS militants in northwest Nigeria at the request of Nigeria’s government, U.S. President Donald Trump and the U.S. military said on Thursday — claiming the group had been targeting Christians in the region.
Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry said the strike was a joint operation and that it has ‘nothing to do with a particular religion.’ The government added that armed groups target both Muslims and Christians, and U.S. claims that Christians face persecution do not represent a complex security situation and ignore efforts to safeguard religious freedom.
The strike comes days after the U.S. military launched separate large-scale airstrikes against dozens of ISIS targets in Syria.
