China’s 15th Five-Year Plan is embracing innovation, and ecosystems have been nurtured that lead to more advances. On artificial intelligence, for example, China believes AI Plus is the key – namely the strategic integration of AI into existing industries, services and platforms to boost efficiency and capabilities.

But there are also those who are devoted to doing things described by some as “reaching for the stars.” Follow CGTN’s Tian Wei as she meets with Professor Zhu Song-chun, a CPPCC member who returned to China from the US five years ago. Among the many crucial projects he is leading is an institute, now with 300 researchers, focused on artificial general intelligence.
