Call to change how math is taught amid declining performance
With growing concern about a decline in student performance in Mathematics over the last decade, Chief Education Officer Dr. Ramona Archer-Bradshaw says the approach to teaching the subject must change.
Addressing a Mathematics workshop for teachers this morning, she said many students struggle with Math simply because of how it’s being taught.
Thirty-four teachers, including from secondary schools and the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College, are taking part in the Mathematics workshop which is being facilitated by the Commonwealth of Learning.
The training will help the Ministry of Educational Transformation fulfil its promise of ensuring students leave school both literate and numerate.
