The battleground is fully set for the first phase of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Voting will take place on November 6th for 121 seats across 18 districts, and over 37.5 million voters will decide the fate of 1,314 candidates. Among them, 122 are women candidates. The importance of this phase also increases because the performance of about half of the ministers in Nitish’s cabinet is to be tested in this phase. The first phase of elections is being considered as a ‘political direction-setting phase’ for both the major alliances of the state, because a political scene of direct confrontation between NDA and India alliance is emerging. The Grand Alliance (India bloc) has fielded RJD candidates in 72 seats, Congress in 24, and the Left parties in 14. The NDA (BJP-JDU alliance) has fielded JDU candidates in 57 seats, the BJP in 48, the LJP (Ram Vilas Paswan) in 13, and the RLM (Upendra Kushwaha) in two. Apart from this, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) is contesting on 1 seat.
