West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said she was unaware of the Malda hostage crisis involving judicial officers, blaming the Election Commission for taking over control of the state administration ahead of polls. She alleged a breakdown of law and order under the EC’s watch, calling it a “super President’s rule.” Meanwhile, the Supreme Court came down heavily on the incident, with Chief Justice Surya Kant terming it a “calculated and motivated” attempt to intimidate judicial officers. The top court has even suggested a probe by central agencies like the CBI or NIA.
