“Will study implications for our national security”: India on Saudi-Pakistan defence pact
Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a formal mutual defense pact on September 17, boosting long-standing ties. The pact strengthens a decades-old security partnership amid rising regional tensions. PM Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman embraced after signing the agreement. Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir, seen as the most powerful figure in Pakistan, attended the signing. India will study the Saudi-Pakistan defence pact for its impact on national security and regional stability. MEA said India acknowledges the formalisation of a long-standing Saudi-Pakistan defence arrangement. India remains committed to safeguarding its national interests amid the new Saudi-Pakistan defence pact. The pact pledges that aggression against one nation will be considered an attack on both. India was aware the Saudi-Pakistan pact had been under consideration before being signed. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized India’s national security is of utmost priority. The defence pact reflects Saudi and Pakistan’s joint commitment to regional and global peace.
