US’ Ex NSA John Bolton blasts Trump’s tariff, warns of India’s emerging ties with China, Russia
US Ex-NSA John Bolton in a bold move slammed U.S. President Trump’s tariff policy. Bolton in a series of posts on ‘X’, accused Trump of undermining strategic gains with his economic approach. He also highlighted that Trump’s tariff move has given “Xi Jinping an opportunity to reset the East.” Bolton asserted that Trump’s policy has “shredded” decades of western efforts to de-align India from its cold war attachment with Soviet Union. He further went on to caution Trump from India-China proximity after POTUS’ ‘disastrous tariff policy.’ John Bolton is former U.S. govt official who served as NSA from 2018-19 to Trump in its 1st term. India is facing global uncertainties as U.S. imposed 50% tariff on Indian goods, which was supplemented by 25% for continuous purchasing Russian crude oil. Bolton’s remark comes after 25th SCO meeting in China, where PM Modi engaged in bilateral meeting with Russian President Putin & China’s Jinping. As per the MEA, PM Modi and Xi Jinping, during their bilateral meeting, recognised the role of India and China’s economies in stabilising the global trade. Meanwhile, during his engagement with Putin, PM Modi emphasised the strong relationship between India and Russia. PM Modi affirmed that cooperation between India & Russia is vital for global peace, stability and prosperity. Putin also noted that this year marks 15th anniversary of the India-Russia ‘Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership.’
