Trump announces 100% tariff on medicines made out of US, calls it protection from foreign imports
President Trump announced fresh set of tariffs on multiple products, including a whopping 100% tariffs on pharmaceutical products. Trump announced 100% tariffs on imported medical products and said that medications manufactured in US will have no tariffs. Defending his tariff tactics, President Trump wrote that the tariffs were aimed to protect American manufacturers from foreign imports. He also announced a 50% tariff on bathroom vanities and a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture, with all new duties set to take effect on Oct 1. The announcements come despite calls from US businesses for the White House to not impose further tariffs. Trump’s tariff tactics have caused a wind whirl in global politics, with many global leaders openly criticizing it. The US president has significantly increased US tariffs on goods from much of the world since re-entering the White House in January. Earlier, US imposed a 50% tariff on goods from India, which included a 25% penalty for its transactions with Russia. EAM S. Jaishankar called Washington’s demand for India to halt Russian oil imports “unjustified and unreasonable” in a sharp rebuttal.
