Rescue operations underway as death toll rises after flash flood followed cloudburst in Kishtwar
Death toll rises to 45 after tragic cloudburst in Chashoti area of Kishtwar on August 14. Rescue operation is underway in as NDRF, SDRF, J&K Police, Indian Army, CRPF reached the spot. Local authorities and local people also joined hands in an attempt to rescue victims at the earliest. Two NDRF teams, comprising nearly 180 personnel reached the spot immediately after the incident. Emergency raised as massive cloudburst took place on route of the Machail Mata Yatra at between 12 noon and 1 pm. Relief stores, medical teams and rescue gear rushed to the site, White Knight Corps said in post on X. Over 5 columns of 60 personnel each and medical detachments of White Knight Corps are on ground. Officials say number of dead & missing can reach to three digits after proper investigation is done. J&K LG Manoj Sinha said that Air Force has also been alerted for evacuation as weather allows. Notably, CM Omar Abdullah shared on his X handle the important number to call in time of emergency. Flash flood caused by massive cloudburst bitters joy just hours before the Independence day.
