Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram criticized the Centre over the proposed 130th Constitution Amendment Bill, accusing it of attempting to appear neutral by merely including the Prime Minister in the provisions. He said “They believe the amendment could be used to destabilize elected governments and concentrate excessive power in the hands of the central executive, particularly the Prime Minister, without any meaningful checks or balances. While the inclusion of the Prime Minister’s name is presented as an attempt to appear neutral, the speaker contends that it is merely symbolic. In practice, the amendment would centralize authority, leaving no institutional mechanism strong enough to hold the executive accountable.”
