“Police returned fire in self-defence” Delhi Police shares key details on ‘Rohini Encounter’
Joint CP Crime Surender Kumar said, “A Delhi Police Crime Branch team, led by DCP Sanjeev Yadav, engaged in an encounter last night with four wanted criminals in Bihar, whose information was received through the Sitamarhi Police… A Bihar Police team was also present in Delhi. We were continuously receiving information about their location through technical interception, but they were consistently eluding the police. Their movement was noted around 2 am last night on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in Rohini, in the Begumpur police station area. The police team requested them to stop, upon which they opened fire in retaliation. The Police returned fire in self-defence, injuring all four… During treatment, they were declared dead in the hospital around 3.15 am. Four semi-automatic pistols, one country-made pistol, and a Baleno car were recovered from them… All four men belonged to the Ranjan Pathak gang and were involved in high-profile murder and extortion cases…”
