“Poisoning minds of young children…” Priyank Kharge slams RSS activities in govt spaces
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Oct 14 clarified his stance on banning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities in government schools and colleges, saying that he has never called for a ban on the organisation.
“I am not sure what the rule is in Tamil Nadu, all we are saying is we need to restrict these activities to private places. Let them do it in their houses, private farmlands, let them hire a hotel and do whatever they want. But this public display of sowing communal seeds and threatening people is not good. Are the RSS cadres special citizens of India? How is it that they can walk around doing march past in areas, localities, with sticks? Just imagine if any other community, Dalits, Backwards, OBCs, put their community colour shirts and hold sticks and do a march past, will anybody allow that? They’ve been doing it for so many years, that doesn’t mean they have to continue, right? There’s a law. Let them take permission. Trying to portray that they’re bigger than the Constitution of India? They’re bigger than the law of the land? I’m sorry, they’re not…,” said Priyank Kharge.
“We’ll see how it goes. I don’t think this kind of arrangement of RSS should be allowed in public places… They are using government colleges, government schools, universities, government grounds, and archaeological sites, for what? They are poisoning the minds of young children. Who are the people who go to government schools and colleges? Poor people. Backwards, SC, STs, Dalits, Tribals, OBCs, and you are indoctrinating religion into them. Whom I have to pray to, what I should eat, what I should wear, my parents will teach me at home. In schools, they’re supposed to learn. They come there for education so that they can get out of poverty. How come if this ideology is so good, why BJP’s children are not in RSS shakhas? Why are they not becoming Gaurakshaks? Why are they not becoming Dharamrakshaks? Why are they not drinking Gau Mutra? Why is this philosophy only for the poor?… When we are in the state, government colleges, government schools, government property will not be used to sow seeds of communal hatred,” he added.
“Where have I told to ban RSS? They are using government colleges, schools, universities, grounds, and archaeological sites for what? They are poisoning the minds of young children… They are indoctrinating religion into them. Whom I have to pray to, what I should eat, what I should wear, my parents will teach me at home. In schools, they’re supposed to learn. They come there for education so that they can get out of poverty… Why are BJP’s children not in RSS shakhas? Why are they not becoming Gaurakshaks and Dharamrakshaks? Why are they not drinking Gau Mutra? …When we are in the state, government property will not be used to sow seeds of communal hatred…” he added.
