Newest chapter of ‘US-Pakistan chemistry’ unfolds in White House; Trump-Munir-Sharif in one frame
The White House hosted Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir on September 28. Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and PM Sharif met President Trump, State Secy Rubio and VP Vance. This unprecedented meet-up between the leaders of the two countries came amid rising India-Pakistan tensions. Asim Munir presented a box of Rare Earth Minerals to President Trump, according to media reports. In a controversial remark, Trump has already mentioned of ‘finding oil’ on Pakistani land and selling it to India. This remark came in wake of the United States’ mounting pressure on India for stop buying Russian oil. Notably, Trump hosted Asim Munir immediately after India conducted Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. Since then, Trump administration continue to tease India by displaying its closeness to Islamabad globally. In return, Pakistan acknowledged the Trump’s role in India-Pakistan ceasefire, nominated Trump for Nobel Peace Prize. As US-Pakistan come closer in Trump’s second term, tensions b/w India and US continue to rise. Trump’s ceasefire claim, Pakistani oil dream, India’s Russian oil dilemma and US-India trade tussle, the world awaits the culminations of the triangular complications in the relations of the nations.
