Monsoon fury unleashed on Delhi-NCR: Yamuna crosses danger mark, orange alert in Gurugram | Flood
Delhi is reeling under intense monsoon mayhem as relentless rainfall lashes the National Capital Region, pushing the Yamuna River past the danger mark of 205.33 meters. Authorities are making efforts to evacuate farmers from the low-lying Burari area, where conditions have worsened since last night. In response to the rising water levels, Delhi authorities have ordered a halt to traffic and public movement near Loha Pul after 5 PM on September 2, following a ‘flood warning’ issued by the Central Water Commission. The water level at the Old Railway Bridge is expected to exceed 206.50 meters. The heavy downpour has severely disrupted daily life, triggering massive traffic jams, particularly at the Delhi-Gurugram border, and affecting certain flight operations due to waterlogging and low visibility. In Gurugram, which received 100 mm of rainfall between 3 PM and 7 PM on September 2, an orange alert has been issued. The district disaster management authority has advised residents to work from home and instructed schools to shift to online classes. Authorities across Delhi-NCR remain on high alert, with the IMD forecasting continued showers at least until September 4.
