‘Major reform in Mining Sector’: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy hails ‘Mines and Minerals Bill’
Rajya Sabha passed the Mines and Minerals (Amendment) Bill 2025 on Aug 19 to reform the mining sector. The bill pushes sustainable mining, zero-waste goals, and supports the National Critical Mineral Mission’s objectives. Govt identified 24 key minerals under the mission, boosting local output via onshore and offshore exploration efforts. India is also securing minerals overseas by signing deals with nations like Argentina and Zambia for development. India is strengthening global ties to ensure stable mineral supply amid international supply chain issues. PM Modi met President Milei to discuss energy and mineral cooperation during his recent Argentina visit. Modi highlighted India’s energy needs and called Argentina a “reliable partner” in meeting industrial demand. Minister G Kishan Reddy called the new mining bill a major step forward in reforming India’s mining industry.
