Israeli forces detain Greta Thunberg; intercept flotillas heading to Gaza; spark global criticism
Several vessels of the Gaza aid flotilla have been stopped and their passengers are being transferred to an Israeli port, the Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement on October 1. Israeli forces surrounded several boats that were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla aiming to deliver aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to camera footage from the group said to be from October 2. Crew were seen raising their hands in the air on at least two boats, with the camera footage saying the boats were surrounded by the Israel Defence Forces. The Global Sumud Flotilla, transporting medicine and food to Gaza, consists of more than 40 civilian boats with about 500 parliamentarians, lawyers and activists.
