US Senate Budget Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin was forced to attend the Alaska summit with Donald Trump because of Washington’s tariff threats. Earlier, Trump had imposed a 50% tariff on India, along with an additional 25% penalty on Russian oil purchases, a move seen as targeting Moscow’s energy customers. Graham argued that Russia’s weakness lies in its dependence on oil and gas sales, and predicted that countries like India would ultimately choose the American economy over cheap Russian fuel.
