“India a Strong Negotiator” Israel’s Chief economist Shmuel Abramzon on India-US tariff tiff
On the 50% US tariff, Chief Economist at Israel Ministry of Finance, Shmuel Abramzon, says, “India is a good negotiator. I believe this is a temporary situation. India and the US, who are long-time partners and have a good and clear future together, will find an agreement to lower these tariffs.” On India-Israel relations, Chief Economist at Israel’s Ministry of Finance, Shmuel Abramzon says, ” The economic relationships are wonderful and great, and they’re just growing and very, very positive trends. This week, we signed a historic agreement, a bilateral trade agreement between our two countries. Israel is happy to be the first OECD country to sign such an agreement with India, which really reflects the commitment of both governments to increasing our ties… We are both dealing with this complicated issue. We don’t have a deal with the United States yet, and we both have experienced higher tariffs. I believe this issue will be resolved. I have trust in the bonds also between India and the United States, between President Trump and Modi and between our President and Trump, and our Prime Minister and Trump. I am uh optimistic and I think we should wait and have patience and it will be okay… We signed a bilateral agreement, and the next step might be a trade deal. On investment opportunities for India in Israel, Chief Economist at Israel Ministry of Finance, Shmuel Abramzon, says, “Haifa port by Adani is a major investment, and we are very excited about it. Infrastructure has a lot of potential for Indian companies to invest in, such as rail or a metro system, which is being built in Tel Aviv…” On India-Israel joint defence production, he says, “Israel is a small country. It is not a manufacturing hub. India is already becoming a manufacturing hub. This combination of Israeli technology and innovation with India is a great match.”
