ANI News Delhi Red Fort blast: Investigation zero in on ‘Doctors of terror’, key locations on possible target
Police say four doctors were involved in planning multiple countrywide blasts as part of a larger terror module near Red Fort. Three doctors, including a woman, are among eight suspects linked to the deadly Red Fort blast that killed at least twelve. Officials confirmed Dr Umar Nabi drove the explosive-laden Hyundai i20 that detonated near Red Fort, killing him instantly. All arrested suspects are part of a transnational module of professionals, clerics and businessmen planning major attacks. Preliminary probe indicates the Red Fort blast was part of a detailed conspiracy to strike multiple targets across India. Multiple cars including a Brezza and an EcoSport were seized as agencies look for more vehicles linked to the blast plot. Arrests led to recovery of arms and huge explosives, including 20 quintals of NPK fertiliser meant for alleged bomb-making. Dr Umar lived in Al-Falah Medical College and drove across several Delhi districts before reaching Red Fort on November 10. Another accused doctor, Muzammil, is linked to Nabi, and diaries found with them reveal planning dates for the blast. The seized diaries mention dates from November 8 to 12 and contained coded entries that investigators are decoding. Investigators are probing whether more vehicles were being prepared for multiple coordinated blasts across the country. Ganai, a former Al Falah student, had over 300 kilograms of explosives recovered from his rented residence by police. Dr Abdul Rather, a 2018 Srinagar GMC graduate, was arrested after links emerged between him, Umar and Muzammil. Fourth accused doctor Shaheen Shahid was also arrested earlier after arms and explosives were traced back to her.UP ATS detained another doctor, Arif from Kanpur, over alleged links to accused Dr Shaheen Saeed in the terror plot. Faridabad Police detained Faheem, who allegedly parked the red EcoSport tied to the blast in the Khandwali area. Police intensified their probe and are searching for a Brezza believed to be linked to prime accused Dr Umar Un Nabi. Four more accused—Arif Dar, Irfan Ahmad, Yasir Ul Ashraf and Zameer Ahanger—were arrested for suspected involvement. Agencies recovered thousands of kilograms of explosives, preventing what officials say were large-scale terror attacks.
