Australia’s most populous state passed sweeping new gun and anti-terror rules on Dec 24 following the Bondi Beach attack. New South Wales state parliament passed the Terrorism and Other Legislation Amendment Bill after approval from its upper house. New law tightens firearms ownership, bans public display of terror symbols and strengthens police power to curb protests. NSW Premier Chris Minns said not all residents would support the reforms but his government is committed to keeping people safe. As per new law, the police will be granted more powers to impose restrictions on protests for up to 3 months after a terror attack.
