Amid Trump Pressure, India Plans Big Missile Deal With Russia For Weapon Which Beat Pakistan?| S400
Top Indian Defence Ministry officials are meeting their Russian counterparts this week to finalize a landmark deal for five additional S-400 air defence systems, aiming to bolster India’s long-range defensive capabilities ahead of President Putin’s annual summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December. India currently operates three S-400 squadrons, with two more systems expected by 2026 under the original $5.43 billion agreement. The new batch, agreed at annually adjusted prices, will strengthen defences along India’s northern command and 7,000 km coastline. Under the proposed arrangement, some units will be built domestically by private Indian firms with Russian technology transfer, including maintenance and overhaul. The S-400 system, praised by Indian Air Chief Marshal AP Singh as a “game changer,” demonstrated its effectiveness during Operation Sindoor by deterring Pakistani air operations and destroying enemy aircraft at long ranges. India is also eyeing the Russian RVV-BD air-to-air missile with over 200 km range to upgrade its Su-30 MKI fleet. Despite U.S. pressure, India prioritizes strategic autonomy in expanding this proven air defence shield.
