Amid Sudan ‘Massacre’, Ghana Leader Blasts UNSC For ‘Historical Injustice’, Demands Permanent Seat
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama renewed calls for Africa to gain permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), calling the continent’s exclusion a “historical injustice.” Speaking in Accra, Mahama urged global powers to “move beyond rhetoric” and support meaningful UN reform. He demanded two permanent seats with veto power and additional non-permanent positions for Africa, home to 54 nations and 1.4 billion people. Mahama also thanked Germany for backing reform efforts, echoing similar appeals by DRC President Felix Tshisekedi at the UN General Assembly. The UNSC currently has five permanent and ten rotating members.
