White House says it warned Qatar of impending Israeli strike
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has told reporters that the Trump administration was notified by the US military that Israel was attacking Hamas, which “very unfortunately was located in a section of Doha, the capital of Qatar”.
Leavitt said that Trump “immediately directed” Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to inform Qatar of the attack.
Mirroring rhetoric used by Netanyahu, Leavitt said that Trump sees the attack as an “opportunity for peace”, despite widespread condemnation and speculation that the attack could deal a serious blow to any Gaza negotiation efforts. The White House says the two leaders spoke after the attack.
The White House praised Qatar and said that Trump has assured Qatari officials that such attacks will not be repeated.
