Trump-Zelenskyy meeting: Ukraine open to trilateral talks with Putin
US President Donald Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House ahead of a meeting with other European leaders.
Before taking reporter questions, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Trump’s “personal efforts to stop the killings and end the wars.” The Ukrainian leader stated his willingness to participate in trilateral talks with Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the conflict.
Trump affirmed US involvement in providing security guarantees as part of any future peace agreement to resolve Russia’s war in Ukraine. However, ahead of the summit, he had urged Kyiv to relinquish its claims to Crimea – annexed by Russia in 2014 in a move widely condemned as illegal under international law – and abandon its NATO membership ambitions.
