Trump says Israel and Hamas sign off on first phase of Gaza ceasefire plan
Two million Palestinians in Gaza are waking up to the news that Hamas and Israel have agreed to the first phase of a ceasefire deal – possibly bringing an end to two years of bombardment, starvation, death and destruction.
It follows days of crucial negotiations in Egypt – with senior leaders from the US, Qatar, Egypt and Turkiye going in for the final round.
US President Donald Trump made the announcement in a social media post a few hours ago.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would convene his government on Thursday to approve the ceasefire agreement.
