Trump calls captives’ return home ‘historic dawn of new Middle East’ in Knesset speech
US President Donald Trump received a huge standing ovation from those in attendance as he entered the Israeli parliament.
“This is the historic dawn of a new Middle East,” Trump says.
He extends his thanks to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who he calls a “man of exceptional courage”.
Trump also thanks the Arab nations who helped with negotiations. It’s an “incredible triumph” they worked together, he says.
Trump said that in Lebanon, “the dagger of Hezbollah” aimed at Israel has been “totally shattered”.
Now “it will be the golden age of Israel”, Trump adds, as well as the “golden age” for the whole region.
The speech was briefly interrupted by a left-wing Knesset member who was quickly intercepted by security.
Trump has been praising several members of his administration for securing the ceasefire, including Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
