OCHA says aftershocks and tough terrain hamper rescue in Afghanistan’s quake-hit area
Amy Martin of UN OCHA told Al Jazeera that search and rescue efforts in Afghanistan continue, despite being hampered by difficult terrain and aftershocks. Assessment and medical teams are reaching affected areas on foot where roads are impassable. Critical needs include shelter, blankets, and winter supplies as temperatures drop. Over 14,000 tents and trauma medical supplies have been mobilised. Coordination with the de facto authorities is active, with helicopters evacuating the critically injured. The UN is working to reactivate its own helicopter to access the most remote communities.
