Cameroon elections: Country heads to polls amid economic hardship
Cameroon heads to the polls in what many see as a defining moment for one of Africa’s oldest leaders and one of the continent’s youngest electorates. Nearly three-quarters of the population are under 35. The 92-year-old incumbent, Paul Biya, is running again after more than 40 years in power. He says his next term would focus on improving the lives of women and young people. Other contenders include Bello Bouba Maigari. He’s the leader of the National Union for Democracy and Progress, which was once allied with Biya’s governing party.

Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris reports from Yaounde.
