Israel to reopen Gaza’s Rafah crossing after search for captive’s body ends

Israel says it will reopen Gaza’s southern Rafah crossing when the search for the body of the last Israeli captive held in Gaza is completed.
The crossing with Egypt was scheduled to reopen this week as part of the US brokered ceasefire agreement.
Israel says the border crossing will open under full Israeli oversight and for the movement of people only.
The statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office comes on the day top US officials visited Israel to facilitate more humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Antony Loewenstein is an independent journalist and author of “The Palestine Laboratory”, a book on the Israeli arms and surveillance industry.
He says even if the crossing reopens, it is unlikely that Palestinians will be allowed to move freely both ways.
