The incident in question took place in Malda, where an event unfolded that is virtually unheard of in any other state. Members of a specific community took to the streets to protest against the deletion of voters’ names from the electoral rolls, effectively bringing traffic to a standstill. Up to this point, the situation remained within the bounds of typical protest; however, the demonstrators subsequently went so far as to take seven Judicial Magistrates hostage. The BJP alleges that all of this transpired at the instigation of Mamata.
