President Vladimir Putin said Russia tested its Poseidon nuclear-powered underwater drone this week, days after Donald Trump criticised Moscow’s earlier missile launch. Putin stated the device was launched from a submarine and its nuclear power unit was successfully activated during the trial. Poseidon is described as a large, torpedo-like unmanned underwater weapon capable of travelling thousands of kilometres at great depth and speed while carrying a megaton-class warhead. Analysts warned it could trigger radioactive ocean waves and threaten coastal regions. The test came as Ukraine peace talks remained stalled, and Putin signalled Russia would not bow to Western pressure.
