ASEAN Summit ends after series of high stakes talks; expanded FTA inked with Beijing
ASEAN Summit concludes in Kuala Lumpur after three days with a restatement of commitment to the grouping’s centrality. It ended on a deal-making high, with an expanded Free Trade Agreement inked with Beijing. But outgoing chair, Malaysia, noted that success cannot be measured in deals alone. The summit welcomed Timor-Leste as the regional bloc’s 11th member. Malaysia also played a crucial role in brokering an expanded ceasefire
between Thailand and Cambodia. More than 30 world leaders attended the summit.
