Erdogan And Starmer’s $9.7 Billion Eurofighter Deal Seals NATO’s Biggest Push Amid Russia’s Warnings
Turkey has finalized a major defense deal with the United Kingdom, as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed an agreement in Ankara for the purchase of 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets.
Prime Minister Starmer said the agreement will strengthen NATO security, deepen U.K.–Turkey defense ties, and support 20,000 British jobs. Erdoğan hailed the move as “a new sign of the strategic relationship between two close allies.”
The deal marks a significant expansion of Turkey’s air power as Ankara also looks to acquire 12 fighter jets from Qatar and 12 from Oman. The Eurofighter purchase underscores Turkey’s push to modernize its fleet amid shifting dynamics in European and Middle Eastern defense cooperation.
