‘Please keep the bling down’: SM Lee on foreigners coming to Singapore
“They have to know that if you’re in Singapore, please keep the bling down.” Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong responded to a question on Singapore’s immigration policy at a Chatham House dialogue in the UK on Monday (Oct 27), saying that while some politicians have made immigration a hot issue, Singapore cannot be “omnidirectional and direction-blind” in taking in immigrants or transient workers.
“We try to manage the overall package so that overall, I have got not just an economy which has the people it needs, but we have got a society which can maintain identity and cohesion,” he said.
