‘Provocation, hybrid threat’, EU condemns airspace violations over Lithuania using Helium Balloons
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on October 27 that Europe stood in full solidarity with Lithuania in the face of the persistent incursions of helium smuggling balloons into its airspace. Lithuania’s Prime Minister, Inga Ruginiene, said on Monday her country would begin to shoot down smuggler balloons crossing the border from Belarus, which have repeatedly interrupted the Baltic nation’s air traffic.
