RCEP deal could mean more certainty for ASEAN members amid trade tensions, says analyst
During the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit on Sunday (Oct 26), United States President Donald Trump signed reciprocal trade agreements with Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam that will see the countries work to address tariff and non-tariff barriers. But the impact of these deals is still unclear, says Senior Fellow Sharon Seah from the ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute. Seah tells CNA’s Asia First why ASEAN’s Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is a significant “trading club” which can help the bloc reach greater certainty amid global trade tensions.
