India to Acquire Advanced Arms Worth $9 Billion in Major Defense Upgrade | Vantage with Palki Sharma
India is spending Rs. 79,000 crores on new defence equipment. The Army is getting three major upgrades. First, the Nag missile system, a homegrown anti-tank guided missile. Second, a ground-based mobile ELINT system — sort of as radars on trucks that can track and identify enemy targets. And third, high-mobility vehicles that will be used to ferry troops and carry supplies. The Indian Navy is getting landing platform docks, basically amphibious ships that can carry tanks, Humvees, or troops. Along with these, the Navy is also adding serious firepower — 30 mm naval guns and advanced lightweight torpedoes, which are essentially underwater missiles. The Air Force is set to receive Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation systems, essentially swarm drones. These drones can take off, navigate and target independently, with a range of over 1,000 kilometres. And, the Air Force will also get replenishments. Reports say India will buy more S-400 missiles from Russia — not the system, but the missiles themselves. Some were used against Pakistan earlier, and the Air Force is now replacing them. On Vantage tonight, Palki Sharma brings you the full story.
