“More development…”: Trump-Putin summit on hold after Russia rejects ceasefire | Russia-Ukraine
Trump- Putin summit scheduled for October 21 was put on hold amid Ukraine-Russia ceasefire talks. This came after Moscow rejected the ceasefire in Ukraine, that overshadowed negotiations effort. “There is no plan for Trump to meet Russian President Putin in immediate future”, a top white house official told Reuters. Prior to this US State Secy Marco Rubio & Russian FM Sergei Lavrov had a “productive” telephonic conversation. Though, Putin has been unwilling to consider relaxations as Moscow has long demanded that Ukraine agreed to concede more land before ceasefire. President Trump announced he and Putin would meet ‘soon’ in Hungary to end Ukraine war. On being asked about summit, Trump responded that there could be “more development & he’ll be notifying over the next two days.” Putin’s investment envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, informed on ‘X’ that “preparations continue” for a summit. European leaders called on Washington on October 21 to hold firm in demanding an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. NATO said Secy Gen Mark Rutte travelled to Washington for talks with Trump on October 21. Meanwhile, Ukrainian Prez Zelenskyy warned Russia of attacks using Tomahawks missile. Zelenskyy said, “we forced Russia to reveal that Tomahawks are the card they take seriously.”
