TCS Layoffs 2025 | AI Shake-Up? TCS Cuts Nearly 20,000 Jobs In 2025 In Biggest-Ever Layoff
Artificial intelligence is transforming industries. And for thousands of workers at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), that shift has come at a high cost. In a stark example of how automation and AI are reshaping the job market, India’s largest IT firm has slashed nearly 20,000 jobs in just one quarter, marking its biggest workforce reduction to date.
TCS reported a net reduction of 19,755 employees in the three months ending 30 September, according to its latest earnings report. The cut — a 3.2 per cent drop from the previous quarter — brings the company’s total headcount below 600,000 for the first time since March 2022.
The job losses include both resignations and company-initiated exits. Severance provisions for the quarter stood at ₹11.35 billion (roughly $128 million), signalling the scale of the change.
Chief Human Resources Officer Sudeep Kunnumal said the cuts are part of a planned headcount reset focused on mid- and senior-level roles. “This is due to a skill and capability mismatch,” he told analysts, noting that TCS is halfway through its goal to reduce the workforce by 2 per cent by March 2025.
