Japanesse Politics After The LDP-Komeito Divorce

The departure from the ruling coalition of Komeito following the election of Sanae Takaichi as Liberal Democratic Party president stunned the political world, creating further chaos in an already unstable political atmosphere. Komeito, which bills itself as a “clean” political party, ended its 26 year partnership with the LDP over the issue of money in politics. But Takaichi’s rightwing, historical revisionist views are also anathema to Komeito’s supporters in Soka Gakkai. What’s next for the party, and for Japanese politics?
