India-Canada resetting relations “step by step” as nations sign joint declaration to strengthen ties
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand continue her three-day visit to India after meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.
 
“The relationship between our countries is one that we are taking step by step,” Anand said on Tuesday after meeting with her Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi.
 
She announced the signing of a joint declaration that not only covers the issues of law enforcement and public security and respect for the rule of law, but also issues “where our economic relationship will have a framework to increase. For example, in the area of trade resilience,” Anand said.
 
This marks the first visit by a Canadian cabinet minister to India in two years, following previous diplomatic tensions.
