Pakistan’s Khawaja Asif rules out ‘dialogue’ with Afghanistan after border clash with Afghanistan
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif denied any ties with Afghanistan after border clash. His statement came after Afghanistan’s ‘unprovoked’ attack on Pak-Afghan border, reported Dawn. Afghanistan called the attack “retaliatory”, in response to Pakistan’s air strike in their territory. Earlier, Pakistan launched offensives on Afghan territory, claiming targeting ‘terrorist hideouts’. “We did not target civilians, we targeted their hideouts…”, said Pakistani Defence Minister. He accused Afghanistan of harbouring ‘conglomerate of international terrorism”, with ISIS, Al Qaeda & Taliban active. “They are all under Kabul’s umbrella”, said Pakistan’s Khawaja Asif, as reported by Dawn. He claimed to target, specifically, TTP’s Chief Noor Wali Mehsud’s hideouts in Afghanistan. At least 23 Pakistani troops died, several others injured after Afghan attack late on Saturday night, reported Dawn. “More than 200 Taliban & affiliated terrorists neutralised, while number of injured is much higher”, said the minister. “It’s stalemate right now, environment is hostile…”, Asif said on Geo News programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Ke Saath. He denied scope of dialogue ‘under threat’, as hostilities could resume “at any time” between the two sides.
