Madagascar Coup LIVE: Protesters Celebrate in Antananarivo as President Rajoelina Dissolves Govt
Live from a square in Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo, after President Andry Rajoelina dissolved the country’s lower house of parliament amid a military rebellion. On Tuesday, Rajoelina issued a decree for the National Assembly to be dissolved immediately. This announcement was made on the Madagascar presidency’s Facebook page. The president’s whereabouts are currently unknown. An elite military unit joined youth-led anti-government protests over the weekend and called for him to step down. In a speech broadcast on social media on Monday night, Rajoelina said he left in fear for his life.
