The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced a major reform — members can now withdraw up to 100% of their EPF balance under simplified rules.
The Central Board of Trustees (CBT), chaired by Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, approved sweeping changes to improve ease of living for over 7 crore EPF subscribers.
The new system merges 13 complex withdrawal provisions into three simple categories — Essential Needs, Housing, and Special Circumstances. Minimum service has been reduced to just 12 months, and documentation requirements have been removed.
The board also launched the Vishwas Scheme to reduce litigation by lowering penalties, approved a partnership with India Post Payments Bank for doorstep pension services, and unveiled EPFO 3.0, a digital transformation initiative.
This reform ensures financial flexibility for members while maintaining long-term retirement savings with 8.25% annual interest.
