Trump Tariffs on India LIVE: World Bank Predicts 6.5% GDP Growth for India Despite Trump’s Trade War
The World Bank has raised India’s GDP growth forecast for the current financial year to 6.5%, up from 6.3% in June, citing strong domestic demand, robust agricultural output, and recent tax reforms. Despite pressure from U.S. tariffs—particularly on exports and energy policy—India remains the fastest-growing major economy, according to the latest global assessments. The Bank highlighted improved GST structure, rising rural wages, and resilient consumption as key drivers. However, it also trimmed India’s forecast for next year to 6.3%, warning that Trump’s 50% tariffs on Indian exports—impacting 75% of goods—pose significant risks. Supporting the outlook, S&P and the RBI maintained optimistic forecasts, with the latter projecting 6.8% growth. A potential rate cut in December could further aid businesses. For now, India’s strong domestic market remains its best defence against global headwinds.
