Two years after the October 7, 2023 Hamas invasion that killed at least 1,200 Israelis and led to nearly 250 hostages taken, Gaza and Israel remain locked in devastating conflict. Already battered by years of blockade, Gaza before the war faced chronic shortages, power cuts, and unemployment but still displayed vibrant community life. Since the outbreak of war, conditions have sharply deteriorated: over 67,000 Gazans have been killed, more than 169,000 wounded, widespread starvation threatens nearly half a million, and most hospitals have collapsed. The situation in Gaza is now described as “apocalyptic,” with dire shortages of food, clean water, and medical care. Despite President Trump’s push for a 20-point peace deal with a ceasefire and indirect talks between Israel and Hamas, the IDF has continued operations, keeping hopes for relief uncertain as Palestinians endure what many call “hell on earth.”
